While many of us may remember the first generations of Beyblade toys, so many more generations have since been released and most recently the Beyblade X, with its accompanying manga and anime series.

The series centres around a game called Beyblade, in which players compete against each other with 'beyblades', spherical toys that whirl in an enclosed space until one gets kicked out by the other. The game is enticing but also hard, and predicting who will win is never an easy task.

In this series, a young Beyblade player called Robin Kazami dreams of climbing the X tower, where all the battle champions rise to the top, defeating their opponents one at a time. But Robin has been abandoned by his team after losing a game miserably. Teaming up with unlikely allies, he forms a new team and, ultimately, makes a name for himself again.

The series tackles themes like found family, competitive spirit, overcoming the need for external validation and so much more, making for a great middle-grade manga series.
