The Mizzy Mysteries is the perfect middle-grade series for all detective wannabes aged 8+, written by Claire Hatcher-Smith with illustrations from Yaroslava Apollonova and Lester Magoogan to help readers as they develop confidence reading independently.
The books in this series all centre a mystery which needs to be solved by the brilliant protagonist Mizzy, from locked wardrobes and anonymous postcards to her own disappearing cousins and the family secrets that have been long buried! If there's one thing about Mizzy to know, it's that she does not shy away from problems, even when things seem impossible to figure out.
We also especially love that Mizzy has Down syndrome, making this a book that not only is inclusive but widens our children's experience and empathy, and calls out all the grown-ups who underestimate her!

This was an interesting mystery with a vast cast of possible suspects and a slight element of peril.
I really enjoyed the representation in this book...
I am a big fan of detective stories and this one was great! I loved the whole plot and the twists along the way and I definitely didn’t crack the case...
