Readers aged 9+ who love a good laugh will have the most deliciously delightful time with Catherine Wilkins' Café Chaos series, fully illustrated throughout in black-and-white by Katie Abey.
This series is so funny but equally so full of heart and warmth, drawing on the so very familiar feeling that no family is perfect after all. In each book, potagonist Hope Crumble helps her family run a busy and bustling café. Her mum is stressed managing the books, her dad and gran are constantly battling in the kitchen, her cousin is constantly wearing a new costume to promote their business and then there's Auntie Rita being Auntie Rita! All while balancing her own tween life with friends, school and some not-so-great bullies. Life is complete and utter CHAOS and it's so very often Hope that problem-solves to keep customers happy!
This is a wonderful series for fans of Jacqueline Wilson who want something light-hearted and funny. If you enjoyed this series and would like to read something similar, do check out our blog post all about the Best Family and Home Book Series for 9 and 10 year olds.
