Rune Series

If you love graphic novels and Studio Ghibli, then you will love the Rune series by Carlos Sánchez, a middle-grade fantasy adventure illustrated fully in colour about two friends braving a new magical land.

The story follows two best friends, Chiri and Dai, who stumble in a strange land called Puddin'. Little do they know this is a magical world where strange creatures roam and monsters, one in particular – the Thousand Faces Monster, are ready to hunt them down. So our friends must learn to use magic and fight, and they make new friends as they navigate this extraordinary world. As the characters grow into themselves, the books explore themes of friendship, found family, bullies and self-confidence.

This is such a beautiful book that will please any reader who loves looking at details in every picture on the page, but we love this series especially for its inclusivity: the protagonist is deaf and many characters know how to sign to communicate, plus we see some lovely LGBTQ representation.

We highly recommend this series to all fans of Lightfall and Amulet.
