We love a mystery with a STEM twist, and this brilliant series by Dr Roopa Farooki is a great example of how books can bring science into the plot in fascinating, thoughtful ways. We recommend this for readers aged 8+.

The books follow two twins Ali and Tulip, who have a knack for solving mysteries. And know a lot about medicine. They've grown up with a surgeon mother and so have picked up lots of knowledge of first aid, medicine, and the ways of the hospital-they even know where the secret biscuit drawer in A&E is. In each book, their medical knowledge helps them get to the bottom of all sorts of crimes, sometimes with the help of their super sleuth grandmother, who is member of an undercover operation known as SWAT (Senior Water Aerobics Team).
