The Wizards of Once is a series of four fantasy adventure books for readers 8+ by Cressida Cowell, Waterstones Children’s Laureate (2019-2022) and the author of the bestselling How To Train Your Dragon books.
The Wizards of Once is set in an ancient land of wizards, warriors, mythical creatures and powerful magic. The books follow the adventures of Xar and Wish, a boy and a girl from opposing tribes, both concealing secrets. Xar is from a wizard tribe, but was born with no magic, and Wish is from a Warrior tribe, yet is hiding a banned Magical Object. Wizards and Warriors are taught from birth to hate each other, but when Xar and Wish’s worlds collide, a whirlwind adventure starts where they must work together and forget their differences.
Cressida Cowell is one of the most popular British authors for this age group and an expert at writing magical adventures. The How to Train Your Dragon series has sold over 11 million books and been made into a major DreamWorks film franchise. She published book one in this series, The Wizards of Once, in 2017 and it was a hit with critics and kids, winning the Blue Peter Award.
