Frog thinks he hears a noise, so he runs over to Duck's house. There they both imagine they hear a frightening noise and they run over to Pig's house. Next morning, Hare gets a real fright when he finds both Frog and Duck's house empty and gets no answer at Pig's house because they are all asleep.

Max Velthuijs was born in The Hague in 1923, and died in 2005, aged 81. He is now considered to be one of Holland's most important creators of children's books, alongside Dick Bruna. He won many awards, including the highly prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 2004.
