The Molteno Project's Tswelelo go Bala le go Ngwala course is a comprehensive Sepedi home language course developed especially for the Literacy learning programme. This course has achieved remarkable results in both South Africa and other sub-Saharan African countries. Tswelelo go Bala le go Ngwala develops the language and thinking skills that will be needed by learners who will later use English as the language of learning and teaching. The programme helps learners to read fluently and write easily and accurately in their home language. When all the resources are used together, the learners gain confidence in their literacy, leadership and organisational skills. Course components for Grade 1 include: * a Teacher's Guide and a Learner's Book for each learner * a classroom set of four conversation posters mad phonic posters * a teacher's sentence maker, word cards and sentence holders or plastic stands * learners' sentence makers, word cards and sentence holders or plastic stands *Tswelelo go Bala le go Readers 1 to 10. Course components for Grades 2 and 3 include a Teacher's Guide, a Learner's Book and a Reader.
Learner material The conversation posters comprise four brightly coloured, large-format pictures with familiar themes that are used to stimulate conversation. The phonic posters are used to teach and reinforce new sounds and the letters that represent them. The colour-rich Learner's Book contains graded reading activities. The Readers contain a wide range of stories, songs and action rhymes that supplement language learning and develop learners' reading ability and love of books.
